Online petition to stop a logging company destroying Lestari Asri Jaya
We need your help to stop a logging company destroying Lestari Asri Jaya, a critical part of the Bukit Tigapuluh Ecosystem. Please help us by signing an online petition launched by the Australian Orangutan Project to urge Barito Pacific not to undertake any land clearing activities in the Lestari Asri Jayan concession and allow the concession to be placed under permanent protection for the sake of the critically endangered Sumatran elephant, tiger and orangutan populations.

WWF Captures Rare Footage of Sumatran Tiger Triplets Playing – in Forest Under Imminent Threat of Clearing
WWF camera traps recorded an astounding 12 tigers in just two months in the central Sumatran landscape of Bukit Tigapuluh, including two mothers with cubs. A video camera trap captured footage of three young tiger siblings playfully chasing a leaf.

Frankfurt Students donate 2600 Euro for the Orangutans
40 students from the elementary school of Frankfurt International School today handed over a 2600 Euro donation to FZS executive director Dr. Christof Schenck. The money will benefit the orangutans on Sumatra, Indonesia.

Shooting for German Television
In late October a team of Germany‘s channel ZDF came to the FZS reintroduction camp in Bukit Tigapuluh to shoot for an episode of the science progamme „Abenteuer Wissen“. The espisode will be broadcasted on 15 December 2010, at 10.15 pm.

Peter Pratje, Robert Muir and Hans Frey receive the Bruno H. Schubert Award for their efforts in conservation
On 27 September 2010 FZS Project Leaders Dr Peter Pratje and Robert Muir were awarded the Bruno H. Schubert Environment Prize (Category II) for their commitment in safeguarding two great ape species and their habitats. Dr Hans Frey, board member of the Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF) was awarded the prestigious prize in Category I for his lifetime dedication to breeding Bearded Vultures in captivity and releasing them into the wild.
